Focusing on Jesus

Matthew 14:31

****Don't look down.!

A.  Hope is the fuel.

     1.  Everything hinges on whether we focus on the Saviour or the storm.

     2.  Don't look down!

     3.  When we become more focused on the overwhelming nature of the storm than the overwhelming presence of God, we are in trouble.

     4.  Whenever Jesus calls someone to get out of the boat, he gives the power to walk on the water.

B.  Learned helplessness.

     1.  Learned helplessness is the giving up reaction, the quitting response that follows from the belief that whatever you do doesn't matter.

    2.  Hope does not just motivate positive action, it actually has healing power.

C.  Christ-mastery.

     1.  Optimism and hope are not quite the same thing.

     2.  Our ability to live in hope to remain focused on Christ during the storm is largely dependent on what we feed our mind.
