The Cave of Adullam

 Matthew 14:29-31; I Sam. 30:1-8
 
1.  Jesus saves before he scolds.
 
A. The cave named failure.
 
    1.  The cave is where you end up when your props, supports, and crutches get stripped away.
 
     2.  The hardest thing about being in the cave is that you begin to wonder whether God has lost track of you.
 
     3.  Sometimes the cave is where you meet God, for God does some of his best work in caves.
 
     4.  One of the greatest secrets of spiritual life:  David encouraged himself in the Lord.
 
     5.  The single most popular category of Psalm is called the psalm of lament.
 
     6.  The cave is the most wonderful place of all to find that you are loved by God.
 
     7.  One of the great gifts failre can give us is the recognition that we are loved and valued by God precisely when we are in the cave of failure.
 
     8.  God is never a God of discouragement.
 
     9.  Question to ask:  Am I growing more easily discouraged these days?
