               Crying Out in Fear
                           Matthew 14:26-30
 
The single command in Scripture that occurs more often than any other is  fear not.
 
God says it to get people to do  something that is going to lead them into greater fear anyway.
 
Fear is the number one reason why people refuse to get out of the boat.
 
I.  What is fear?
          1.  When a fear response is triggered, our bodies go into action.
          2.  In some cases fear ceases to be sporadic and becomes habitual.
          3.  Worry is fear that has unpacked its bags and signed a long term lease.
          4.  Over and over in the Bible, it is fear that threatens to keep people from trusting and obeying God.
 
     A.  Loss of self esteem.
         1.  Avoidance kills an inner sense of confidence and esteem.
         2.  When you are in a situation that creates fear, but you face it head on, you will feel a rush of satisfaction i knowing you displayed courage.
 
     B.  Loss of destiny.
 
     C.  Loss of joy.
          1.  Giving in to fear is a joy killer.
 
     D.  Loss of authentic intimacy.
          2.  We often play the quiet game.
     E.  Loss of availability to God.
          1.  Fear has created more practicing heretics than bad theology ever has.
 
     F.  Fear gets passed from generation to generation.
          1.  Many learn about fear from our families.
          2.  Fear isn't the only thing that spreads, so does trust.
