                              Ragged Dolls:  The Stomp Game
                               John 3:22-30
                                         John 12:12-19


To be loved means to be chosen.
 
I.  Four factors in being chosen:
 
     A.  When I am chosen, I am seen as unique.
 
     B.  When I am chosen, I am recognized as someone who has something to contribute.
 
     C.  When I am chosen it means somebody wants me.
 
     D.  To be chosen in our world almost means to be chosen at the expense of someone else.
 
II.  Letting  go.
     A.  Letting go is always an act of trust.
          1.  John the Baptist had to give up normal life.
          2.  He would never have a normal job.
          3.  He had given up all financial hope.
          4.  He had to let go of ordinary relationships.
          5.  God asked him to relinquish all claims to comfort.
          6.  He had to let go of any hopes for a normal home life.
 
III.  The anatomy of envy.
     A.  Envy is wanting what another person has and feeling badly that I don't have it.
     B.  Envy is disliking God's goodness to some else and dismissing God's  goodness to me.
     C.  Envy is desire plus resentment.
     D.  Envy is dangerous because it is opposed to other people.
     E.  Envy by its nature can never be appeased.
 
IV.  The subtlety of envy.
 
     A.  Envy makes us pursue things that we don't even truly want.
     B.  Envy can only be healed when I come to live as one who has been chosen by God.
