John 3:22-30
John
12:12-19
To be loved means to be chosen.
I. Four factors in being
chosen:
A. When I am chosen,
I am seen as unique.
B. When I am chosen,
I am recognized as someone who has something to contribute.
C. When I am chosen
it means somebody wants me.
D. To be chosen in
our world almost means to be chosen at the expense of someone
else.
II. Letting go.
A. Letting go
is always an act of trust.
1. John the
Baptist had to give up normal life.
2. He would
never have a normal job.
3. He had
given up all financial hope.
4. He had to
let go of ordinary relationships.
5. God asked
him to relinquish all claims to comfort.
6. He had to
let go of any hopes for a normal home life.
III. The anatomy of envy.
A. Envy is
wanting what another person has and feeling badly that I don't have
it.
B. Envy is
disliking God's goodness to some else and dismissing God's goodness to
me.
C. Envy is
desire plus resentment.
D. Envy is
dangerous because it is opposed to other people.
E. Envy by
its nature can never be appeased.
IV. The subtlety of envy.
A. Envy makes us
pursue things that we don't even truly want.
B. Envy can only be
healed when I come to live as one who has been chosen by
God.
