God, The Government, and Me Part 2

                 Romans 13:1-7
 
I.  The nature of Government.
 
     A.   Civil government is appart of God's purposes for the world (1-2)
          The 3 Institutes God Established.
           1. The Family. Gen. 2:18-25
           2. The Church. (Acts 2)
           3. The Government. (Rom. 13:1-7)
 
     B.  Government leaders are servants of God. (3-4)
    
     C.  Civil Gov't is only temporary. (I Cor. 15:24)
 
II.  The purposes of Gov't.
 
     A. To protect human life.  (Gen.9:6; Ex. 20:13)
     B.  To protect personal and property rights. (Ex. 20:14-17)
     C.  To handle disputes between people. (Deut. 1:12-17)
     D.  To punish lawbreakers. (Rom. 13:4; I Peter 2:13-15)
 
III.  Our responsibility and relationship to the Gov't:
 
     A.  I am a citizen of two worlds. (Phil.3:20;Eph.2:19;Luke20:22-25)
     B.  My primary obedience is to God. (Acts 4:13-20; 5:27-29; Matt. 6:33)
     C.  I am to obey the law whenever possible. (Titus 3:1)
           1.  Because God established it. (Rms. 13:1)
           2.  Because they are for my own good. (Rms. 13:3-4)
           3.  To maintain a clear conscious. (Rms. 13:5)
           4.  To maintain a good testimony. (I Peter 2:13-15)
 
     D.  To pray for public officials.  (I Tim. 2:1-3)
     E.  I am to pay taxes required by my gov't.  (Rms. 13:67; Luke 20:25)
     F.  I am to influence my gov't for good. (Matt. 5:13-16)
