How Jesus Replaced What Adam Erased
Romans 5:12-21
I. How we got into this mess! Romans
5:12-14
*Why is there evil in the
world? (vs. 12a)
*Why do people die?
(vs. 12b)
The Bible speaks of three kinds of death:
* Physical
death.
* Spiritual
death.
* Eternal
death.
What about people who have never heard of the
Bible? (vs.12-14)
II. Contrasts and Comparisons between Adam
and Christ (Rms. 5:15-21)
" ...Adam was a pattern of the One to
come." (vs.14b)
This passage
is divided into two parts:
vs. 12-17:
contrasts "is
not like"
vs. 18-21:
comparisons "so
also...."
Comparisons:
Verse15 The event.
Adam"s temptation and sin in the Garden of
Eden. Jesus Christ's gift on the cross.
Verse 16. Result. The result of
Adam's sin was judgement and condemnation. The result of
Christ's gift was justification.
Verse 17. Effect. The effect of Adam's
sin: death reigned. The effect of Jesus' gift,
life.
Two comparisons:
Verse 18: Both
committed a single act.
Verse 19: Both
influenced the entire race.
