How God Uses Suffering Part 1

                        How God Uses Suffering
                         Romans 5:1-5

Paul mentions three things christians are to rejoice about:
Verse 2  We ought to rejoice in hope.
Verse 3  We are to rejoice in our suffering.
Verse 11 We rejoice in God.

I.  We rejoice in hope because we have peace with God. (vs1-2)
     Four characteristics:
          1.  You lose your fear of God.  (John 15:15)
          2.  You lose your fear of death.  (Heb. 2:14-15)
          3.  You don't panic when the devil suggests doubt. (Eph. 6:11, 16)
          4.  You have confidence before God even though you're imperfect. (Romans 8:1)

II.  We rejoice in suffering.  (verse 5)

Definition of suffering: in the Greek it literally means distress.

     Misconceptions about rejoicing in suffering:
          1.  Being a christian exempts you from problems.
          2.  It doesn't mean faking it.
          3.  It doesn't mean enjoying the suffering.

Why can christians rejoice in suffering? (3a)
Because we know something other people don't know.
Because we have a perspective that other don't have.
